Every Lent we collect items for health kits distributed by Lutheran World Relief. Each health kit must contain the following items:
Feel free to donate any/all of these items as you can. Cash donations are also welcomed to help with the cost of shipping and finishing incomplete kits. Toothpaste must also be purchased for each kit, but cannot be provided through donations as a result of recent safety scares. Additional money is used to offset this extra cost.
Reconciling in Christ Sunday: In 1984 Lutherans Concerned-North America started the Reconciling in Christ program to recognize Lutheran congregations which welcome lesbian and gay believers. The Reconciled in Christ roster has grown at an accelerated pace in recent years, including many Lutheran congregations in the United States and Canada. The program has also expanded to include 9 synods, including the ELCA and other Lutheran organizations, such as the Lutheran Student Movement - USA. It is often assumed by most gay and lesbian people that they are not welcome in any church unless told otherwise. Even a general statement of welcome is heard as really meaning everybody but me The RIC program seeks to make clearer the policy of churches where all people are welcome as full members, regardless of their sexual orientation or their children's. MountCalvary became a Reconciling in Christ congregation on June 28, 1998
